      <description><![CDATA[Our current 13 week series begins September 8, 2010.   Bayside Woodland’s Singles’ Divorce Care program uses a DVD-based curriculum that has been developed by a national Christian organization. Each week there is a lesson on a particular subject followed by a small group discussion. Table discussions are facilitated by trained volunteers who have personally experienced divorce and have successfully managed its consequences.

Examples of the topics covered in this program include:

* What’s happening to me?
* The road to healing/finding help
* Facing my anger…depression…loneliness (over different weeks)
* Financial survival
* New relationships
* Single sexuality
* Forgiveness
* Reconciliation

      <description><![CDATA[Davis residents can clean out their home offices on Sept. 11 at a free shredding event from 9 a.m.-noon at the Davis Waste Removal office, 2727 Second Street, Davis. Davis Waste Removal, which contracts with the city for all of Davis’ garbage, recycling and green waste, is partnering with Absolute Secured Shredding of Sacramento to offer the service to residential customers only. Limit is four 8.5”x14” file boxes or an equivalent amount.

      <description><![CDATA[Local residents with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads are invited to audition for Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet’s “The Nutcracker.” Dance experience is recommended, but not required. Auditions will take place at 3 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the Sacramento studio, 1630 I Street, and 3 p.m. on Sept. 19 at Intel Corporation, Building FM7, 1900 Prairie City Road, Folsom.

Pamela Hayes’ “The Nutcracker” has been recognized for its unique entertainment approach and costuming. The 2010 production will be performed Dec. 17-19 at Folsom High School’s 700-seat theatre. Tickets will go on sale Oct. 1.

Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet is a nonprofit ballet dedicated to the preservation of classical ballets. With studios in Sacramento and El Dorado Hills, the company has been performing and training dancers for more than 20 years. Among many ballet disciplines, Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet bases its training in the Royal Academy of Dance, the largest teaching organization in the world. CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE AT ANNUAL GALA SEPT. 30
Women’s Empowerment’s annual fundraiser to benefit homeless women and children

Community members are invited to the 9th Annual Celebration of Independence Gala that benefits Women’s Empowerment, a local nonprofit helping homeless women find homes and jobs so they can support their families. The event, which honors the group’s most recent graduates, will take place from 5:30-9 p.m. on Sept. 30 at The Grand, 1215 J Street, Sacramento, and will feature a formal dinner, live auction, live music, and presentations from the graduates and local community leaders. Women’s Empowerment is the only job-readiness program exclusively serving homeless women in the greater Sacramento region. The 2009 Nonprofit of the Year has graduated 662 homeless women and their 700 children, with 91 percent of them finding permanent housing and 60 percent finding jobs or enrolling in school, despite the current economy. This unique program combines self-esteem courses, job training, health classes and support services to help homeless women across diverse ages, races and cultures.
